Hello there. Yes you, hi. I’m Elroy Pat. A detective in a middle-of-nowhere town in Iowa. Well, I used to be a detective. For eight days. Then things kinda just happened. It all started with a murder. Some farmer was killed in his house, big deal. Except he was killed by aliens. So, very big deal. Well, they’re technically not aliens. Like 50% aliens. It’s complicated, trust me. But anyways, they killed him. Oh, and did I mention he was an alien too? Well… also technically he’s not an alien either. But the group he’s a part of, they think they’re aliens. I’d say they’re more like wizards. On account of the fact that they can do things like shoot fire balls out of their hands. And… you know what, I’m just going to stop there. Right where things are about to get interesting… Detective Pat is the quirky, humorous tale of a young man too smart for his own good thrust into the middle of a galactic war fifty years in the making. Along the way he meets a colorful cast of characters, each with their own personalities bulging with emotional baggage. He also meets aliens. With mystical alien powers. The book attempts to punch the reader in the gut with laughter, smack them on the head with passion and kick them in the shins with character development. This book, a freshman novel by author Brian Perry, combines humor, mystery and science fiction all together in one jumbling package.

I liked this book pretty much from the first page. Detective Elroy Pat finds himself in the middle of an upcoming alien (sort of) war with no clue how he ended up there. Chaos ensues and he gets to use his way better than average intellect to help himself and others out of different jams. Oh, and there's a girl involved. Of course.I agree that it's witty and entertaining. It's also excellently written with a unique story line. I recommend it highly and it's worth way more then the current 99 cent price. A really good read and I'm looking forward to the next one.
To the author: Very well done...but I always point out when a little editing is needed. You have words that are correctly spelled but are the wrong word. Kaleigh has "green flecked eyebrows" instead of eyes. Then she has green freckled eyes, instead of flecked. Later her "coniferous eyes" and later she has "emerald eyes". Are they a color with flecks of green or completely green with colored flecks? And he should "take his cue", not queue. I know, most people won't notice. But this happens more than 20 times in the book so I just had to mention it.

Detective Pat Think Smart Solve Crimes Kill Aliens Brian C Perry 9781490329086 Books Reviews
This book was free on so I thought I'd give it a go. Seriously, who can turn down a free book during the summer's infamous beach season? Well, after ensuring that had I hopped right into the fun dialogue by high-fiving the author on the first page (seriously, it's his first book so he gets into it) I quickly found myself finished with the first chapter before I even remembered to apply my sunblock lotion. I'm very excited to spend my day finishing this book. So far it seems to be extremely well-written and entertaining to the point I'm asking all my friends to read along with me today!
This book looks like the author was being paid by the word. Blah, blah, blah. It starts out looking good quirky hero, two groups of aliens (one good and one bad), and super powers galore. Unfortunately, the story meanders, sub plots dead-end, a major character is casually terminated, and the hero's behavior deteriorates into bumbling. I read it all the way to the end hoping for another flash of fun like I saw at the beginning but no luck.
Great debut book for a great upcoming author! Great twists and turns, an excellent adventure. I look forward to even more books in the future!
THIS REALY MAKES YOU WONDER WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT IN A BISARE FASCINATING STORY WITH LOSTS OF THINGS HAPPENING LIKE MURDER LOVE TRIANGLES ALIENS???!!! AND WARFARE
Detective Pat sucks you in from the very beginning and holds your attention the whole ride. Perry has a refreshingly quirky writing style and doesn't take himself too seriously. I found myself laughing out loud while reading the book. He manages to combine humor, sci-fi, and mystery into a compelling plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Each character has such a strong, unique personality you can't help but grow attached, and by the end of the book, I really feared for each character's life.
This book defies clichés and takes turns you don't expect. I'm usually pretty good at predicting how a book is going to end, but that was not the case with Detective Pat. I highly recommend this book as a great, easy read. It's not your run of the mill alien book. And I'm looking forward to the sequel!
This story is a fast paced action thriller pitting genius Detective Pat against good and evil with a few mysteries the characters have yet to unravel. Book two can't come soon enough because Mr. Perry ends this story with a bang and this reader wants, no has, to know how it is going to turn out. Read this book if you want to experience heart pounding action and adventure all mixed in with budding romance...like life itself there is no telling how this is going to turn out but you are sure to enjoy the ride.
This book captivated my attention from the first page. I loved the world created by Perry, and really especially enjoyed the refreshing tongue in cheek writing style. Detective Elroy Pat is a very sarcastic and enjoyable character thrown into a situation over his head, but not to the point the reader loses the ability to relate to his character. With all the action and chaos involved there are plenty of twists in the plot to keep the story entertaining and unique.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who would enjoy the tongue in cheek style or would benefit from a refreshing change of pace in their reading list. I'm really looking forward to the sequel.
